Learning Disabilities Week - Wayne Vists WWT Slimbridge

This week is Learning Disability Week, and the theme is "Do You See Me". In our delivery at Rehability UK Group, we assist those with a learning disability diagnosis in whatever goal they want to achieve and whatever activities they choose. We aim to make wishes come true.

We filmed Wayne at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre. He is passionate about Ducks and Geese and is now a Lifetime member with the WWT , which has welcomed him and his friends from Abbeymead Lodge with open arms.

Speaking of the Visit - Louise Minshell, the Registered Manager of Abbeymead Lodge at Rehability UK, said: “We love the way the team at WWT Slimbridge have opened up their arms to the people we support and given them so much to experience. Our person-centred care approach dictates that we always encourage the supported individual to pursue interests that are meaningful to them.

“We wholeheartedly support the way that WWT is so inclusive in hosting us and wildlife, and the ducks and geese that Wayne adores are there in that place, thanks to their conservation work. WWT Slimbridge truly is a beacon of hope and joy in Gloucestershire.”

WWT’s Visitor Experience Manager, Charlotte Stokes, said: “We’ve spent the last few years working hard to make WWT Slimbridge as accessible and welcoming as possible for everyone, and it’s been lovely to see that recognised with awards like the Visit England Awards for Accessible & Inclusive Tourism.

“But it’s stories like Wayne’s that really stay with you. Knowing that our wetlands mean so much to him, that they bring him so much joy, that’s what it’s all about for us.”

From us all at Rehability UK, this Learning Disabilities week, and 365 days a year, we see you, we value you, and we will continue to support you in your adventures and everyday life.
