Rehability UK Carbon Reduction Plan

Carbon Reduction Plan.jpg

Our Commitment to Net Zero

At Rehability UK, we are committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, in line with UK Government targets.
As a leading provider of adult and children’s care services, we recognise the importance of protecting our planet for future generations. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact across every area of our operations — from energy use and travel to digital systems and waste management.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

To establish our baseline, Rehability UK used UK Government average emissions factors to estimate carbon emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.
Actual consumption data from the last financial year is now being collated and will form our confirmed baseline going forward.

Scope 1 – Direct Emissions

Emissions from owned or controlled sources

  • All 115 services (109 adult, 5 children’s and 1 day service) currently use gas boilers.

  • Estimated Scope 1 emissions: 333,500 kg COâ‚‚e per year

Scope 2 – Indirect Emissions

Emissions from purchased electricity

  • 4 offices (35,000 kWh each per year)

  • 114 domestic services (3,100 kWh each per year)

  • 1 day service = 2 domestic homes equivalent

  • Total electricity consumption: 499,600 kWh per year

  • Estimated Scope 2 emissions: 116,407 kg COâ‚‚e per year

Scope 3 – Other Indirect Emissions

Emissions from travel, procurement and waste

  • Staff travel: 1,032,600 kg COâ‚‚e per year

    • Petrol cars (830 employees): 896,400 kg COâ‚‚e

    • Hybrid cars (10 employees): 6,600 kg COâ‚‚e

    • Public transport (360 employees): 129,600 kg COâ‚‚e

  • Procurement and waste: currently no formal recycling initiatives in place

  • Digitalisation: digital care planning and incident management systems in use

  • Print management: plans underway to install Papercut software to reduce paper and toner usage

  • Recycling: all ink cartridges currently recycled

Total Estimated Emissions: 1,482,507 kg COâ‚‚e per year

  • Scope 1: 333,500 kg COâ‚‚e

  • Scope 2: 116,407 kg COâ‚‚e

  • Scope 3: 1,032,600 kg COâ‚‚e

Our Targets

We aim to:

  • Reduce total carbon emissions by 30–40% by 2035
→ Target emissions: 741,253 kg COâ‚‚e per year

  • Achieve Net Zero by 2050 (representing an 80–90% reduction)

Progress will be reviewed every five years to ensure we stay on track.

Carbon Reduction Initiatives

1. Energy Efficiency

  • Transition to green energy tariffs across leased offices and services (currently under review)

  • Promote energy-saving practices among staff and people we support

2. Travel

  • Encourage carpooling and greater use of public transport

  • Explore remote and hybrid working options where feasible

3. Waste Management

  • Introduce recycling programmes across all sites (in progress)

  • Reduce single-use items and promote reuse

4. Digital Transformation

  • Expand use of digital care planning and cloud-based systems (implemented)

  • Install print management software to cut paper and toner waste (in progress)

  • Continue recycling all ink cartridges (actioned)

Monitoring and Reporting

Rehability UK will establish an internal Sustainability Team to:

  • Monitor and report emissions annually

  • Track progress against reduction targets

  • Improve data collection for accurate measurement of energy use and travel patterns

Governance and Review

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been approved by senior management and will be reviewed annually to reflect changes in operations, initiatives and measured progress toward Net Zero.
