Apperley House Gets a "Tiny Tablet"

Rehability UK's Apperley House steps into the digital age with inspired inspirations and their "tiny" tabletop tablet!

Apperley House in Tewkesbury has just completed a mammoth fundraising drive and has raised a huge £4,500 towards an inspired Inspirations table-sized tablet. Rehability UK has topped up the pot by £1500 to make the "sometimes" plan a "now" plan. The latest in shockproof digital table-top-sized tablet technology will help the people who live there boost their confidence, communicate, and learn through fun.

Seventeen people with profound and multiple learning and physical disabilities live at Apperley House,  and the people who know them thought that the stimulation this tool can bring would enhance their days and work towards them being able to live their best lives. From puzzles to sensory experiences and much more, the large-format tablet means that anyone can access digital touch screen technology to build their abilities – no trying to see or manipulate small images because it's on a grand scale. Each resident has a personalized care plan, and using digital technology will mean that we can provide care and learning support appropriately for each resident.

Speaking about the new technology, Jenello Galos, Peripatetic Manager for RehabilityUK, said, "From the moment we saw this technology, we knew we needed to do everything we could to get this into Apperley House – it's a game changer for the people we support and their staff, who will be able to use it to build care plans for the people we support that are meaningful to them and track and monitor progress towards goals. We always seek to enable people to thrive in care, and this tool will help us achieve that. From creative apps for colour coordination and art through to puzzles and cognitive games, this will bring large format learning accessible to all of the people we support and their devoted staff team."

He continued, "We have already been planning the launch. The introduction of the resources provided by Inspired Inspirations is really opening up our horizons on what is possible. The stimulation we will be able to offer residents will, without a doubt, help them progress towards their goals."

The added bonus is that the technology is shockproof, has its own internal power source, and is supplied on wheels for use wherever people want to use it.

Juliet Morris, Registered Manager at Apperley House, was enthusiastic about the technology's potential. "We have residents with a huge range of abilities, and this technology will mean we can adapt what we do for each resident and, at the same time, provide sensory, cognitive and confidence-boosting activities for everyone here regardless of the disabilities they are living with. The technology is ideal because it is designed to withstand intense day-to-day use, and the stand it comes on will mean we can fit it around our staff and residents regardless of what they do."

Juliet continued, "The screens are also able to process up to 10 points of interactivity, so 10 fingers can use the screen at the same time. This means we can have more than one resident and care worker using it and sharing experiences and interactions at any one time. The screens are wipe-clean, and with 10 hours of battery capacity, this will see the residents through a full day of use between charges."

Cristina Pashmi, the Chief Operating Officer of Rehability UK, said of the new technology, "This is an ideal platform for us to invest in, and a huge credit must go to the staff and residents who fundraised the majority of the money required for this. We believe the introduction of this tech will transform the way we help the people we support achieve so much more in their lives.
